Literacy Interventions
For children struggling with reading (decoding, comprehension, and fluency), spelling, written expression, vocabulary, and other areas of literacy, we provide systematic, structured literacy interventions based on the science of reading. Clinician expertise in this area is derived from a two-year training program (LETRS; Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), which is an approved program by the International Dyslexia Association. See below for more information, and contact us for availability.
-
1. Comprehensive Skills Evaluation
Before intervention, our comprehensive evaluation will pinpoint where the breakdown is happening. We evaluate each individual skill which contributes to reading and writing, so we know exactly which skills to target.
-
2. Targeted Interventions
We create an individualized intervention plan for each child. Lessons are structured and sequential so that each skill builds upon the last, with guided practice and immediate application of skills taught. Between sessions, activities are provided as “homework” to solidify skills outside of the office setting.
-
3. Ongoing Progress Monitoring
Ongoing progress monitoring ensures instruction matches the pace of your child’s developing skills. While the pace of improvement will vary for each child, the goal is to see continual progress toward established goals. These goals are adjusted accordingly until the child is successful in meeting their overall literacy skills targets.
